Summer STE(A)M Academy: STE(A)M Adventure

7-1 - 7/5 Anatomy of Me

To better understand the human body and how the many organs and body systems inside of us work, the children will become biologist and future doctors in the medical field in search of answers to how our organs work by conducting experiments to understand our brain, how our lungs enable us to breathe, how blood pumps through our bodies, and exploring our stomach and how the stomach breaks down and processes food.  Children will be making a kid sized model of a human body placing our major organs.

Children will create and understand different scientific tools, the use and how to use them (stethoscope, microscope and slides, temperature testing) while studying the human body and the care our bodies need to grow healthy and strong.

They will work together to navigate its treacherous depths, engaging in STEM-focused experiments, hands on design trials and engaging in discussions.  The scene each day will be filled with exciting stories that engage their senses, curiosity and critical thinking skills.

The children will work together with the crew to accomplish catapults, tying knots and fashioning maps to hidden treasures during this adventurous discovery week.

Pack your passport, have it stamped while passing through customs as we travel internationally visiting Australia, China, India and Mexico.   Travel through these four countries, and learn about their culture, history, languages, food, traditions and their countries primary animal.  Learn and play different musical instruments while indulging in different food tastings events from these countries.

Seek how the world and universe around us work.  Discover physical science by exploring salt water and buoyancy and the basic understanding of what molecules are, how they behave and how their form can be changed.  Using scientific exploration and experimentation to understand how molecules change forms.  Understand and examine the physical properties of salt water from a scientific perspective by traveling to the Middle East and the Dead Sea to learn about water composition.  Learn how different factors such as density, can influence an objects ability to float by testing salt level properties and by gaining and examining the principles of how air displaces water, causing floatation.

Visit our modern world learning about magnets and electricity.  Experience the challenge of properties and effectiveness of magnets through experimentation.  Explore how static electricity can be created and deployed by performing experiments as a young scientist.
